Fairphone, the ethical phone manufacturer, offers an alternative to the campaign and pressure group approach. As they point out, their message comes from the source of consumption. “From the earth to your pocket, a smartphone’s journey is filled with unfair practices. We believe a fairer electronics industry is possible. By making change from the inside, we’re giving a voice to people who care.”

They were also the first to integrate Fairtrade gold into their supply chain. But the real key to their offering is the difference at the end of the consumer experience. Where many tech companies don’t want the consumer to extend the battery life or update the camera themselves, Fairphone invites the consumer to do just that, thus extending the life of the product and having control at the end.
